Church of Our Lady of the Snows and the Convent of Dominican Nuns

ul. Mikołajska 21, 31-027 Kraków

The church and the adjacent convent were built in the first half of the 17th century for the Dominican Nuns in the area known as Gródek (i.e. retaining the name of the former fortified settlement of Kraków vogt). The Baroque-style church was raised as votive thanks for the victory over the Turks at Chocim, and repeatedly rebuilt later. The high altar holds a miraculous painting of Our Lady of the Snows, a gift from Pope Urban VIII. The furnishing includes elements from the 17th, 18th, and 20th centuries.

The convent built around a square garth replaced a former mansion of the Tarnowski family. From the side of the Planty Garden Ring, the building uses the former city wall and fragments of the Butchers’ Gate.
