St Barbara’s Church

Mały Rynek 8, 31-041 Kraków

This church is situated on Mariacki Square. It is Gothic, built in the second half of the 14th century as a cemetery chapel, and remodelled in the 17th century. Passers-by are struck by the picturesque arcaded cemetery chapel by the door, known as the Garden of Olives, with late 15th-century sculptures by artists from the circle of Veit Stoss (Wit Stwosz).

The interior is Baroque, with a noteworthy Gothic crucifix in the high altar and a stone Pieta in a chapel. Since the end of the 16th century, the church has belonged to the Jesuits (with the exception of the years 1773–1874).
