The Krakow Nowy Theatre
Nowy Theatre is a new cultural institution with a rich artistic potential. It has implemented numerous cultural undertakings. It was founded in June 2006 by a group of young artists and art theoreticians (students and graduates of theatre schools in Krakow, Warsaw and Wrocław as well as graduates of the Jagiellonian University), who had theretofore been mainly connected with the theatre groups of Avant'Teatr and Audytorium Theatre.
Since December 2006, Nowy Theatre has had its own, fully professional theatre space, located in Kraków at 21 Gazowa Street. The seat of the theatre was opened thanks to the involvement of its members and funds obtained from private investors.
The main goal of the theatre is to promote and popularise contemporary plays (especially European ones), activate and consolidate artistic environments as well as create opportunities for young artists to have their débuts on the professional stage. Nowy Theatre also cooperates with outstanding artists and teachers of state theatre schools, who support the theatre's artistic activity through consultation and workshops (we cooperate with Professor Jerzy Stuhr, Professor Ewa Kutra, Professor E. Linde-Lubaszenko, Professor B. Hussakowski as well as I. Bielska and M. Bajor).
Moreover, in order to create a place where theoreticians can freely discuss issues with practitioners, Nowy Theatre cooperates with the staff of the Jagiellonian University, by organising a series of meetings and lectures devoted to the most significant problems of the contemporary theatre and drama.
