KTO Theatre was formed in Kraków in 1977. Since 1985 it also organises street performances.
The stage experience as well as street experimentation performed by the theatre shaped its specific language, made up of: body, voice, movement, music and very few words. The style and repertoire of KTO Theatre refers to a mediaeval travelling troupe with jugglers. All this makes the performances spontaneous and wholeheartedly welcomed by all types of audiences. The theatrical archetypes and the emotional character of the spectacles have effectively removed misunderstanding between KTO Theatre and the audience, both from small towns and renowned theatre festivals.
KTO Theatre performances have been presented at the most important theatre festivals in Poland, Sweden, Germany, Austria, Russia, Ukraine, Brazil, Belgium, Czechoslovakia, Slovakia, Hungary, Spain, the Netherlands, France, Costa Rica, Bulgaria, Italy, the United Kingdom, Tunisia, Lithuania, Albany, Belarus, Romania, Croatia, the United States of America, South Korea, Columbia, Mexico and Iran.
Over 1.5 million viewers from the entire world have attended KTO performances, both permanent and occasional, which were carried out only once. KTO Theatre organises one of the oldest street theatre festivals in Central Europe. The festival has been organised since 1988 and it has become a permanent element of the summer cultural calendar of Kraków. Since January 2005, KTO Theatre has enjoyed the status of a municipal theatre.
