Museum of Archeology

The Archaeological Museum in Kraków is the oldest institution of this type in Poland (it was founded in 1850).

The museum's collection is comprised of around 500,000 monuments representing the period from the Paleolithic Age to the modern are, as well as some monuments of the ancient civilizations of the Mediterranean (Egypt) and South America (Peru), and numismatists.

The main research projects are associated with prehistory and early Middle Age Małopolska with special consideration for Kraków and the lands around it, along with studies of Mediterranean civilizations. The museum educates students of universities, elementary and secondary schools about archaeology, history and art history.
