About

The hospital was founded in 1917, when it operated as the Municipal Sanitary Institution.

One of its patients was Faustyna Kowalska (between 1936 and 1938), who was canonised by John Paul II in 2000.

In 1990 the institution received the name of John Paul II. The pope personally consecrated its newly built cardiosurgical department in 1997.
