Prof. Jacek Majchrowski Prof. Jacek Majchrowski - lawyer, Professor of Uniwersytet Jagielloński (Jagiellonian University), full Professor of Law Sciences, historian of political and legal doctrines. A specialist in the field of the Second Republic of Poland, documenting its history, particularly the activities of right-wing parties. Deputy Chairman of the State Tribunal during its previous term of office, at present - judge of the State Tribunal.

Jacek Majchrowski was born on the 13th of January, 1947, in Sosnowiec. His life has been bound up with Krakow, and his professional career - with the Jagiellonian University. He graduated from the University in 1970. In 1974 he was granted the "Doktor" title (Ph.D.) by the Law and Administration Department, in 1978 he defended his post-doctoral thesis ("habilitacja"), and in 1988, as one of the youngest scholars in the history of Jagiellonian University, he obtained the title of "Profesor nadzwyczajny nauk prawnych" (Associate Professor of Law Sciences). He held the position of the Dean of the Department of Law and Administration from 1987 through 1993.

From 1996 through 1997, when Professor Jacek Majchrowski was holding the office of Voivode of Krakow (Head of the Krakow Region), he was instrumental in e.g. creating a Special Economic Zone in Krakow and signing a preliminary agreement on building the Multifunctional Center (Centrum Koncertowo-Kongresowe). He saved the "Teatr Stu" Theatre from liquidation. Moreover, he brought about the transfer of the Soviet soldiers' graves from the Krakow Planty ring to the Rakowicki Cemetery, which put an end to a sharp conflict that had led to public demonstrations on numerous occasions.

As the President of Cracow, he cured the long-standing problems in land and real estate management; increased the revenues of the city whilst maintaining a restrictive financial policy, initialized the cooperation with low-fare airlines and helped in the rapid development of the tourist industry, culture and sports infrastructure. Thanks to President Majchrowski, the revitalization of the Wisła and Cracovia stadiums and the sports facilities of the "Hutnik" club was finally commenced, after many years of inertia. He also launched the program aimed at construction of multifunctional sports fields, indoor swimming pools and huge sports and recreation complexes, and completed the revitalization of the most important historic areas (the Market Square, the Planty ring, Floriańska Street).

During his previous term of office, the most important ecological investments, numbered among the largest such in Poland, were carried out. Moreover, the biggest up to now, officially accepted project on the expansion and modernization of the public transportation system was launched during his tenure.

Krakow has moved to the forefront of the cities that take pride in their abilities to obtain funds from the European Union (more than 1 billion zlotys was obtained through various projects), as well as the biggest investment effort per citizen.

Member of the SLD (Democratic Left Alliance) party since 1999, Professor Majchrowski suspended his membership for the time of the presidential campaign. Honorary member of Klub Zachowawczo-Monarchistyczny (Conservative-Monarchic Club), a member of Polskie Towarzystwo Historyczne (Polish Historical Society), Polskie Towarzystwo Nauk Politycznych (Polish Political Science Association) and of many foreign scientific societies, including the elite Associazione degli Storici Europei.

Deputy Chairman of Społeczny Komitet Odnowy Zabytków Krakowa (Civic Committee for Restoration of Krakow Heritage).

Doctor Honoris Causa of University of Bordeaux.

Prof. Jacek Majchrowski is the author of many scientific studies and 14 history books, mainly on the Second Republic of Poland. His last book is "Pierwsza Kompania Kadrowa - portret oddziału" (The First Cadre Company - Portrait of a Military Unit), just published by Księgarnia Akademicka.
