Kraków will receive nearly 80 million PLN to help the youngest refugees. This support is possible thanks to the city's cooperation with UNICEF. Today, Mayor of Kraków Jacek Majchrowski and UNICEF Deputy Regional Director for Central Europe and Asia Philippe Cori signed an agreement which provides for joint action on behalf of refugees until the end of 2022.

UNICEF has once again offered to help Kraków care for refugees from Ukraine who have found shelter in our city. On 30 March its representatives, the so-called emergency team and UNICEF Poland Director-General Marek Krupiński, visited the Mayor of Kraków. The purpose of the meeting was to present the possibile UNICEF's support for the activities of the local government of Kraków in the area of caring for the youngest refugees.

'I have been involved in humanitarian aid and refugee affairs for 40 years and I never imagined that I would visit Poland and Kraków in this context,' said United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi, who visited Krakow's city hall on 30 March 2022.

On 29 March, the ashes of the late Krzysztof Penderecki, a world-renowned composer of Polish 20th-century music were transfered and deposited in the National Pantheon. Krzysztof Penderecki was an Honorary Citizen of Kraków and a recipient of the silver Cracoviae Merenti medal.

Sean Penn - Hollywood actor, director, co-founder and CEO of the global crisis relief CORE NGO - will work together with Kraków Mayor Jacek Majchrowski to help refugees from Ukraine and support volunteers working with them. The cooperation agreement was signed on 23 March 2022 at Kraków City Hall. Before arriving at the office, the American delegation visited the relocation and information centre at the Main Railway Station in Kraków.

Since the beginning of the war, Kraków municipal institutions, residents and volunteers have been involved in helping Ukraine. Now you can support those in need not only by collecting gifts or volunteering, but also by making a donation to dedicated bank account. Payments can be made in four currencies, and the transfer title should read "Pomoc dla obywateli Ukrainy / Aid for citizens of Ukraine".

As part of the Appeal addressed by the President of the Organization of the World Heritage Cities (OWHC), Mr. Jacek Majchrowski, Mayor of Kraków, and referring to the appeal for support addressed to the international community by the Lviv City Council and the Board for the Protection of the Historic Environment of Lviv, the OWHC General Secretariat is launching the “Organization of World Heritage Cities Initiative for Ukrainian Cultural Heritage” (OWHC-IUCH).

In the wake of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine as well as the destructive brutality of the war, the Lviv City Council and the Board for the Protection of the Historic Environment of Lviv, have appealed for support.

An update on the aid activities of Kraków and the Małopolska Region. The voivode's office has invited mayors and district chiefs to work together to create a Regional Coordination Centre for Ukrainian Aid. The aim of the initiative is to prepare aid depots in each poviat. The actions taken will also concern services connected with transport and accommodation.
