UK Ambassador to Poland drives the tartan tram

On Monday 22 January British Ambassador to Poland Jonathan Knott visited a tram service station in Podgórze to see the tram decorated with Scottish tartan designed for Kraków. The ambassador himself requested to visit one of Kraków tram depots and was eager not only to take a photo against this special vehicle but also to have a go at driving it.

Polish and European librarians visit Kraków

On Sunday, 1 October Frank Ross Lord Provost of Edinburgh officially presented the tartan to Krakow’s Mayor Jacek Majchrowski. The tartan was weaved in Dalgleish - one of Scotland’s last traditional tartan mills.

Fallen Canadian pilots honoured in Kraków

In August 1944 Allied forces flew from Italy to drop supplies over Warsaw to help in the Warsaw Uprising. Many were shot down over Poland including, among others, Polish and Canadian pilots. 15 Canadian and 22 Polish pilots are buried at the Rakowicki Cemetery in Kraków.

41st Session of the World Heritage Committee

The 41st session of the World Heritage Committee, meeting in Krakow, Poland, through 12 July, has inscribed 21 new sites to UNESCO’s World Heritage List. Among these were 18 cultural and three natural sites. In addition to the new inscriptions, the Committee also approved five site boundary changes.

On Common Path. Kraków and Budapest in the Middle Ages

On 5 June Mayor of Kraków Jacek Majchrowski and Lord Mayor of Budapest opened a new exhibition at the Historical Museum of the City of Kraków devoted to the mediaeval and early modern history of Kraków and Budapest. The exhibition On Common Path - Kraków and Budapest in the Middle Ages was opened after both mayors signed a new agreement twinning the two cities.

5 June 2017 has become another important date in the history of Kraków's cooperation with the Hungarian capital. On that day Mayor of Kraków Jacek Majchrowski and Lord Mayor of Budapest István Tarlós signed a twin cities cooperation agreement. The cities' relationship was based on a partnership agreement signed in 2005.
