Zbudowany w latach 1954–1955 jako pierwszy teatr w Nowej Hucie, Teatr Ludowy miał być sceną kameralną, jednak po zaniechaniu budowy Teatru Wielkiego przy Placu Centralnym stał się główną instytucją teatralną dzielnicy. Architektura budynku łączy socrealistyczne założenia z klasycyzującą elegancją – harmonijną bryłę wieńczą przeszklone latarnie, a wnętrza z marmurami, lustrami i kryształowymi żyrandolami nawiązują do stylu empire. Projekt wnętrz powstał we współpracy Janusza Ingardena z Krystyną Wąsowicz. Teatr, otwarty 3 grudnia 1955 roku sztuką Wojciecha Bogusławskiego Cud mniemany, czyli Krakowiacy i Górale, dał nazwę nie tylko osiedlu Teatralnemu, ale i sąsiednim osiedlom Krakowiaków i Górali. Obiekt to jeden z przykładów nowohuckiego socrealizmu osadzonego w tradycji przedwojennej architektury – i do dziś pełni swoją pierwotną funkcję.

Ludowy Theatre - People's Theatre (1954−1955, designed by Marta and Janusz Ingarden, Edmund Dąbrowski), Os. Teatralne 34

Built in 1954-1955 as the first theatre in Nowa Huta, the People's Theatre was intended as an intimate stage, but after the abandonment of the Grand Theatre in Central Square, it became the district's main theatrical institution. The building's architecture combines socialist-realist principles with classicist elegance – the harmonious body is crowned by glazed architectural lanterns, and the interiors with marble, mirrors and crystal chandeliers are reminiscent of the Empire style. The interior design was created in collaboration between Janusz Ingarden and Krystyna Wąsowicz. The theatre, which opened on 3 December 1955 with a performance of Wojciech Bogusławski's play 'Cud mniemany, czyli Krakowiacy i Górale [The Supposed Miracle, or Cracovians and Highlanders]', gave its name not only to the Theatre estate, but also to the neighbouring Krakowiacy (Cracovians) and Górale (Highlanders) estates. The building is one example of Nowa Huta's socialist realism embedded in the tradition of pre-war architecture and still serves its original function today.

Costruito tra il 1954 e il 1955 come primo teatro di Nowa Huta, il Teatro Popolare era stato concepito come una struttura di piccole dimensioni, ma dopo la rinuncia alla costruzione del Teatro Grande, presso la Piazza Centrale, divenne la principale istituzione teatrale del quartiere. L’architettura dell’edificio unisce i principi del realismo socialista all’eleganza classicista: la sagoma armoniosa è coronata da lanterne vetrate, mentre gli interni, con marmi, specchi e lampadari di cristallo, richiamano lo stile Impero. Il progetto degli interni fu realizzato in collaborazione tra Janusz Ingarden e Krystyna Wąsowicz. Il teatro, inaugurato il 3 dicembre 1955 con l’opera teatrale Cud mniemany, czyli Krakowiacy i Górale di Wojciech Bogusławski, ha dato il nome non solo al complesso residenziale Teatralne, ma anche ai vicini complessi Krakowiacy e Górale. L’edificio è uno degli esempi del realismo socialista di Nowa Huta, radicato nella tradizione dell’architettura prebellica, e ancora oggi svolge la sua funzione originaria.
