Educational project for upper secondary schools of the Organization of World Heritage Cities – Kraków 2018 in the European Year of Cultural Heritage
Project of the member cities of the Central and Eastern European Region of the Organization of World Heritage Cities - International school program.
Working title of the project:
International school project among the member cities of Central and Eastern European Region of the OWHC – facing modern challenges and youth involvement in the European Year of Cultural Heritage
Upper secondary schools educational seminar in world heritage and cooperation of young generation:
- Participants: upper secondary schools from Vienna, Banská Štiavnica, Riga, Budapest and Krakow
- Program for the school year 2017/2018
- International, 4-days educational workshops-seminar in Krakow
- Possibility to continue the project in the following years
Participants:
20 students from 5 schools: High School No. 16 in Krakow, Kossuth Lajos Gimnázium in Budapest, Gymnázium Andreja Kmeťa in Banská Štiavnica, Ita Kozakiewicz Polish Secondary School in Riga and the Higher Technical Institute Camillo Sitte in Vienna together with teachers and municipal coordinators.

Aims:
- popularization of world heritage, Organization of the World Heritage Cities and CEER, exchange of good practices in the field of heritage protection
- continuation of results and experiences of the school programs 2012-2016: testing and developing the new methods and approaches establishing in former projects
- development of new methods and measures of cooperation between secondary schools in the frame of the Organization of World Heritage Cities projects and aims
- visit to the world heritage places in Krakow/European cities
- launch of new links between schools of the CEER OWHC and other education institutions of European cities
- participation in common educational program
- questionnaire for the students about the activities as well as their imagination about their wishes on the field of international cooperation
- opening of photo exhibition/ presentation of video production etc. – project should be resulted with concrete "product"
- introduction of participating cities and countries to all participants
- historical excursion - welcome to the heritage and history of Central and Eastern European countries
- implementation of the goals of UNESCO Young People’s World Heritage Education Program and OWHC Youth School Programs:
- To encourage young people to become involved in heritage conservation on the local and global level
- To promote awareness among young people of the importance of preservation of architectural heritage by means ofthe UNESCO World Heritage Conventionand the Organization of World Heritage Cities
- To develop new and effective educational approaches, methods and materials
- try to show a new way of cooperation to other cities to be able to follow this example
Schedule of the project:
- 2017 – cities application for the project, selection of schools in cities
- January-February 2018 – preparations in Krakow and preparatory meeting with participation of representative of schools and cities: discussion on the agenda and content of the seminar
- February – April 2018 preparation for the programme, design of the project logo by students in cities
- May 2018 – voting for the logo
- 31 May – 4 June 2018 – implementation of the project – seminar in Krakow
