National Day of Norway

On 17 May Norwegians are commemorating the signing of the Eidsvoll constitution. This document, signed on 17 May 1814 in Eidsvoll  declared Norway to be an independent kingdom and constitutional monarchy.

First official celebration of the Constitution Day was organised by the Norwegian Parliament on 17 May 1836.

On their National Day Norwegians eagerly walk in the parades that take place across the country, and they decorate their homes with flags and flowers. In Capital City, the parade is greeted by the royal family who are waving to the crowds from the Royal Palace balcony.

Happy Constitution Day to all Norwegians!
