National Day of Iceland

On June 17 Icelanders celebrate their National Day. The union with Denmark was dissolved and Iceland was declared an independent republic on this day 1944.

In Reykjavik the official celebrations start with bells ringing out at the Dómkirkja Cathedral, located very near the house of parliament. There are official speeches and laying of wraths but also exhibitions and open air concerts organised to mark this special occasion.

Gleðilegur Þjóðhátíðardagur!
