On Wednesday, January 23rd, Mayor of Krakow Jacek Majchrowski met First Vice-President of the European Commission Frans Timmermans.

The meeting was an opportunity to discuss the municipality’s current priorities including; development of the metro system or changes in the tourism sector. Frans Timmermans admitted he is truly impressed with Krakow’s beauty. Mayor Majchrowski invited the Vice-President to visit the city in spring.

The meeting at the city hall was followed by Citizen’s Dialogue at Jagiellonian University’s Auditorium Maximum. The event’s main focus included European heritage of WWII, civil responsibility and Europe’s future. The meeting gathered a large group of young Italian students visiting Krakow as a part of the Memory Train project, commemorating Holocaust victims and educating youngsters regarding the Shoa.

Citizens' Dialogues, held since 2012, are public debates with European Commissioners and other EU decision-makers, such as members of the European Parliament, national, regional and local politicians. The events take the form of a question and answer session. They are an opportunity for politicians and citizens to exchange opinions about current issues and share ideas on the future of Europe.
