On December 5th 2011, the on-line edition of “The Sun” published an article by Nick Parker entitled “England team’s Euro 2012 camp is a DUMP”. The article features false information and the included photographs deform the reality. I must express my strong protest against such practices.
It is not true that the renovation work at the Hutnik stadium is conducted sluggishly. We are, in fact, ahead of the adopted work schedule and there is no danger that the approved deadlines will be missed! The renovation of the changing rooms, the façade and the modernization of pitch will be completed in May 2012. I do guarantee that all the deadlines, fixed in cooperation with the English FA, will be kept. The photographs featured in Nick Parker’s article were, in fact, taken during preparatory dismantlement work conducted at Hutnik’s facilities. They do not picture the building as inspected by England’s manager Fabio Capello on October 31st.
I would like to mention that, in addition to the Hutnik stadium, Krakow is ready to put at the disposal of our English guests the neighbouring facilities on Ptaszyckiego Street, including the Com-Com Zone Sports Centre. The state-of–the art center occupies an area of six thousand square meters and consists of a swimming pool, a sports hall, three training rooms, a superbly equipped gym and a recreation zone.
It is important to add that before having selected the base camp, the representatives of the English FA had paid numerous visits to our city and their final decision to choose Krakow was well deliberated, based on a several-months research and bilateral agreements. All potential doubts were personally cleared by Club England Director Adrian Bevington and England’s coach Fabio Capello.
The decision of the English FA was met in Krakow with great enthusiasm. We spare no efforts to make are guests feel comfortable in our city. We find the article’s false suggestion that the English team is to train at a tumbledown and rubble-strewn stadium truly shocking. Therefore, I strongly demand that “The Sun” and its on-line edition publish this correction and remove Nick Parker’s article from their web-page.
I would also like to ask that you contact the municipal press service when “The Sun” plans to refer to Krakow in the future. We will be pleased to assist you with all available information. At the same time, I do encourage you to visit Krakow. We will be happy to prove our city’s true commitment aimed at making the stay of the English team in Krakow and their preparations for Euro 2012 as comfortable as possible.
