Jazz Band Ball Orchestra
The band was formed by a group of students of the State Higher Music School in Kraków. After its first success in Poland (e.g. first prize in the first Jazz on the Oder contests), it went on tours around neighbouring countries.
Since the 60s, the group has been active in Germany and other countries of Western Europe. The band is known there more than it is known in their own country. At the end of the 70s, JBBO initiated the next stage of its history. Europe turned out to be too crowded and the band switched to the American market. The band gained a foothold thanks to the greatest festival of traditional jazz (around 1000 musicians), Sacramento Jazz Jubilee.
The band quickly became the audience's favourite and a group of the most zealous fans established the JBBO Fan-Club. The 25th anniversary of Jazz Band Ball Orchestra was celebrated by an 80-person group of American fans, who visited Poland for that very purpose. JBBO is difficult to pigeonhole, which is the favourite activity of some critics. For a long time, it has been beyond the banjo-and-tuba category, but despite that its concerts are frequented by traditional purists. On the other hand, some pranksters have already changed the full name of JBBO into "Jazz Be Bop Orchestra".
The musical machine of JBBO was built on the tradition of Louis Armstrong. Jazz Band Ball Orchestra is a Satchmo traditionalism, Lunceford, Goodmen and Ellington Swing, a touch of Boogie, Latin American fury, an echo of Rhythm & Blues – all that combined and supplied with show and creative parody. This is the shortest definition of JBBO music, which is enjoyed by fans from the east and the west for the fourth decade.
