Boba Jazz Band
Boba Jazz Band was established in Kraków in 1990. It consists of two generations of musicians, which is a very important feature of the group, as it gives it strength and expression at the concerts. The repertoire is based on all types of classic jazz, but it also contains songs written for musicals and films.
In a special programme called Happy Jazz, the audience can listen to originally arranged musical compositions of contemporary creators, sometimes with traces of folk music. This contrasts with a wide selection of swing standards, derived from the compositions of such jazz greates as Duke Ellington or Count Basie. The group's special offer includes musical setting for celebrations, meetings, balls, receptions and children's parties.
The 12th anniversary of the BJB was celebrated by an impressive phonographic acquis made up of 5 CDs, 3 cassettes and participation in several important television shows. This includes an hour-long musical film featuring such celebrities as Danuta Rinn, Danuta Błażejczyk, Alicja Bachleda Curuś, Jan Machulski, Jan Nowicki, Paweł Deląg, Jacek Wójcicki and others.
The group participates in major jazz festivals and performs with such legends of European jazz as: Chris Barber, Rod Mason, Monty Sunshine (featuring on one of the albums) Acker Bilk, as well as Glenn Miller Orchestra. Over the last two years, the ensemble has cooperated with a young vocalist, Katarzyna Radwańska, and with an American singer, Ron Ringwood.
To enumerate the many important events and achievement of the band would be too lengthy, so perhaps it is best to quote the shortest review written by one journalist, who said: "they are the last ones to play jazz without modifiers". In May 2001, BJB entered into close cooperation with Wierzynek, the oldest and the most popular restaurant in Kraków, where it organises periodical concerts and plays live concerts.
