Centre for the Documentation of the Art of Tadeusz Kantor CRICOTEKA
For years, it fulfilled a double function: that of the centre of Cricot 2 theatre, and a theater archive. It was here that the team of Cricot 2 theatre returned after their artistic pilgrimages and it was here that documents were stored and compiled. The cellar of the archive on Kanonicza Street was used for rehearsals and as a gallery.
Currently, one of the most important tasks of Cricoteka is to spread the art of Tadeusz Kantor, both in the sphere of theatre and visual arts. To this end, the gallery runs large-scale exhibitions, and organises educational sessions and meetings. The exhibitions are held in the outposts of Cricoteka and in the Krzysztofory Gallery. They are also organised in many galleries and museum in Poland and abroad.Cricoteka also cooperates with other outposts that present Tadeusz Kantor's art, providing them with substantive support, lending showpieces and documents. It also organises numerous scholarly sessions, symposia and convents, as well as commemorative meetings on anniversaries of the establishment of Cricot 2. The anniversary of Tadeusz Kantor's death is also celebrated by organising exhibitions, discussions and events.
Cricoteka's archive is used by scholars, whose work revolves around the art of Tadeusz Kantor. The rich archive provides:
- audiovisual materials (recordings of Tadeusz Kantor's productions, documentaries, tape recordings),
- published text written by Kantor, as well as books about him and his work,
- photographs associated with the activity and performances staged in Cricot 2 theatre,
- documents pertaining to performances (schedules, catalogues and reviews).
