Church of St. Jadwiga Queen of Poland

ul. Władysława Łokietka 60, Kraków

Jadwiga, a 14th century monarch of Poland (who is referred to as the king of Poland), became famous for her great devotion.

She initiated the first translation of the Polish Book of Psalms. She also contributed to the development of the Kraków Academy. In front of the church under her auspices a cross was placed, under which John Paul II delivered a holy mass in Błonia Park in 1979 during his first papal trip to Poland.

In 1997 the pope visited the church after canonising St. Jadwiga during a mass delivered in Błonia Park.
