Power Station of the Municipal Theatre
Address:
Teatr Słowackiego, Kraków
Description
It was designed by Jan Zawiejski and built along with J. Słowacki Theatre between 1892 and 1893.
The architect gave it a character of an eclectic, picturesque villa. It used to produce direct current powering the lighting of the theatre's stage and interior, and served as a theatre's paint shop. When initiated, it was the second facility of this type in Poland. The power plant operated until 1906, when the theatre received electricity from a newly initiated municipal power plant in Kazimierz. Currently, it is the seat of the Miniatura Theatre.
