Stefan Żeromski Hospital

Address:
Osiedle Na Skarpie 66, Kraków

Description

It was built in 1954 as a municipal hospital. Similarly to the Steelworks Administrative Centre, it constitutes an excellent example of socialist realist architecture, referring to the palace-like forms of the Baroque due to its stately façade and monumental stairs leading to the main pavilion. The patron of the hospital was chosen thanks to his leftist views. His bust was placed in front of the hospital in the 1970s. One of Nowa Huta's housing estates is called Glass Houses, which was a reference to Żeromski's novel, The Spring to Come.
