Writers’ House at 22. Krupnicza Street

ul. Krupnicza 22, Kraków

In 1948 Wisława Szymborska married the Krakow-based writer Adam Włodek. She moved out and came to live together with her husband in a room on the attic of the famous Writers’ House at 22 Krupnicza Street. The room was extremely cold, as the poet recalled years later. After some time the couple moved to a double-room flat on the first floor in the house where another poet, Konstanty Ildefons Gałczyński had lived. Here Szymborska made a lot of friends and acquaintances, who later stood by her for years. The social and cultural life of Krakow’s literary circles of that time continued in her flat, like at 22 Krupnicza Street.
