Exhibition ”Szymborska’s Drawer”

Plac Szczepański 9, Kraków

Szymborska’s Drawer – an exhibition devoted to the poet in Kamienica Szołayskich (a branch of the National Museum in Krakow), at 9 Szczepański Square. The exhibition opened on the first anniversary of the poet’s death . It looks like a kind of stage set, a three-dimensional collage, in which the thinks the poet once owned meet citations from her works, as well as photographs of people, things and places. Various drawers, lockers and bookcases raise curiosity, encouraging exploration, discovery and learning. They contain objects Szymborska liked to collect – masks, old postcards, souvenirs and curiosities which she received from her friends (such as a pig with a musical box in its tail, a lighter in the form of submarine or a mini-commode , the gift from the poet Czesław Miłosz). There are also some books from Wisława Szymborska’s collection, plenty of photographs, some taken by the roadside boards with bizarre or funny names of localities, the poet’s workplace, which shows the process of creation of a poem, and her ”workshop” at which she created collages.
