Jacek Majchrowski, President of Krakow, the Ambassador of the Fair 2015
The Polish Chamber of the Exhibition Industry awarded the title of Ambassador of the Fair 2015. The award this year was received by the President of Krakow, prof. Jacek Majchrowski, a long-time promoter of the International Book Fair in Krakow and an activist for the development of the meetings industry in Krakow.
The most important organization of entrepreneurs in the fair industry awards the title of "Ambassador of the Fair." every year. It is awarded to people from the world of business, science or politics who contribute to the development of the exhibition industry in Poland and popularize the idea of the fair. The title of Honorary Ambassador of Fair is awarded once a year at the request of the members of the Polish Chamber of Exhibition Industry. Looking at the merits of prof. Jacek Majchrowski for the development of trade fairs and meetings industry in Krakow, such a decision comes as no surprise.
Krakow today, thanks among other things, to the actions of the President Majchrowski, can boast of a comprehensive service for the organization of congresses, fairs, as well as world-class performances. In the city, a private fair organizer - the Krakow Fair company – has been operating for 20 years, being the owner of the EXPO Krakow modern trade fair and congress centre. The product range of Krakow for the MICE industry is completed by two city buildings - the Krakow ICE and the Krakow Tauron Arena. Efforts for this infrastructure were started by prof. Jacek Majchrowski at the time when he was Governor of the Krakow voivodeship in 1996-1997, and then he contributed to the signing of a preliminary agreement to build a concert and congress centre. Krakow is a perfect example of cooperation between the city and the largest private event organizer in Poland in shaping the image of a tourism- and business-friendly city.
The importance of the new facilities for the development of the city is proven by the results of the report "Industry Meetings and Events in Poland". According to this, during the term of office of President Majchrowski, in 2015 and 2014, Krakow was the most frequently chosen city in Poland for the organization of conferences and congresses. Business meetings, especially trade fairs, mean not only prestige, but also specific budget revenues for the city and local businesses. It is also a long-term investment in development.
The following events, well-known throughout the country and often throughout the world, have been developed in Krakow in cooperation with the City in the last twenty years: the International Book Fair in Krakow, the International Dental Exhibition KRAKDENT, the International Trade Fair for Machine Tools & Material Processing Equipment EUROTOOL, International Fair of Hotel and Catering HORECA.
The city of Krakow recognized the opportunity to grow and it has become the capital of the meetings industry in Poland. This is, among other things, due to the decisions and policies of the Ambassador of the Fair 2015, Jacek Majchrowski, who sees the great potential in the meetings industry. The fact that it is his thought and considered plan of action is evidenced by the fact that Krakow was the first in Poland to begin a project for the evaluation and monitoring of the economic impact of the meetings industry on the economy of the city using the best Swiss practices (the KRAKOW IMPACT project).
